Sainte-Montaine <\/strong>numbers 180 inhabitants and is thus the smallest village in the Sauldre and Sologne territory. Very little is known about that Saint after whom the village was named. She might have been a daughter of P\u00e9pin \u00ab le Vieux \u00bb<\/strong>, Charlemagne<\/strong>\u2019s forefather. According to a legend, some mirraculous water springs at the Belle Fontaine (Fine Fountain) which is the last stop of a pastoral pilgrimage on Whit Mondays amidst a lovely setting. Marguerite Audoux<\/strong>, the Femina prize winner in 1910 once worked in a farm as a shephard girl. A museum is dedicated to her and her dear Sologne<\/strong> country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
